One of the most important ways to improve your lawn's health is through core aeration. Core aeration will help ease your soil compaction allowing your roots to grow deeper and become stronger. It helps decrease thatch and creates ways for air, water and fertilizer to get directly to root system. *Not recommended for lawns with invisible pet fence, damage will likely occur.
We do this with the core aeration to give you the maximum benefit. Overseeding helps add new young grass to your lawn to keep it healthy and to thicken your lawn. It is also a good way to promote new varieties of grass that are more drought and disease resistant.
Reduces surface tension which can reduce watering requirements up to 50%. Increases nitrogen fertilizer efficiency. By managing moisture levels in the soil you are helping to break the drought cycle in plants. Biodegradable technology that conserves water, saves you money and reduces runoff and pollution. The white grubs that routinely damage lawns in Sioux Falls are called annual white grubs. These root-eating, underground June beetle larvae have one generation per year and take one year to complete their life cycle. The grubs grow rapidly and are fully grown at one inch in length by late August or September. Feeding by the grubs prunes the roots from the plants and causes the grass to wilt and fade.
Extreme feeding by populations of 10 or more annual white grubs per square foot will cause the grass to die. White grubs move several inches deep in the soil to spend the winter. Preventing grubs is way more cost effective than repairing damage to your lawn. We provide a high-quality grub control that will keep your lawn safe all season.
Ascochyta Leaf Blight
Ascochyta leaf blight is a stress induced disease of the leaves. It doesn’t impact the roots or crowns – the growing point of the plant. It is commonly associated with heat and drought, but over‐watering and poor irrigation uniformity can also exacerbate this disease.
There are very few labeled fungicides to cure the effects of Ascochyta leaf blight, but we have the correct fungicide to help cure this disease. Even better news is that it doesn’t typically need treatment! Because this disease only affects the foliage, the damaged tissue will be mowed off over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, try to reduce stress with adequate moisture, healthy mowing practices with a sharp mower, and the use of slow release fertilizers to slowly feed the lawn through the summer.
Dollar Spot
Dollar Spot is by far the most common fungal disease in this area. Some fungal strains grow best in cool temperatures, while other strains develop in warm temperatures. The disease may appear when temperatures are 60 to 90F. Warm days, high humidity, and cool nights seem best for disease development.
Dollar spot disease is names for the silver dollar sized spots that appear in the lawn. The turf in these areas is straw colored. Spots may merge to form larger areas, but you should be able to see the spots as well. If you look closely at an individual grass plant, you will see dollar spot lesions as bleached, hourglass spots that reach across the width of the blades. It can also be tracked by your mower or other tires that go across your lawn causing lines in the yard.
This disease may appear in well-kept lawns, as well as those that receive little attention. It is also more common in areas of poor drainage. Water the lawn early in the day so that the turf dries more quickly. Evening watering increases disease pressures. Core-aerify the lawn in the Spring and/or Fall to reduce compaction and to reduce the thatch layer. Light to moderate cases usually grow out of it with proper fertilization and watering. More severe cases will need a fungicide application and sometimes two fungicide applications within 14 days.
